Waldorf School of New Orleans seeks a Middle School Math Specialist. This is a part-time position (approx 16 hours/week including teaching and planning.)

SUMMARY:
Subject teachers are asked to foster an interest in their subject as well as a love of learning in children who span a wide range of ages and abilities. Their primary job is to develop important skills that will help the children become well-rounded students, and they are also asked to collaborate with class teachers in such a way that their lessons can help enrich the subjects that are currently being taught in Main Lesson.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

CLASSROOM RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Subject Class Teaching
Prepare a basic syllabus for each grade, guided by the Waldorf curriculum, which can be made available to the office and to parents at the start of the school year.
Arrive at school promptly with all lesson plans and materials ready in order to begin class in a timely fashion and follow through with their class schedule throughout the day.


Regularly document student progress and insist on the highest standards in all student work.


Develop and maintain a safe, harmonious social environment for the students.
Develop and maintain a clean, orderly learning environment, both within the classroom and throughout the school campus.

2. Parent Meetings and Communication
Conduct parent-teacher conferences as scheduled on the school calendar.
Arrange and participate in conference(s) with parent(s) and a support faculty member, as needed, to discuss student academic or disciplinary concerns.

3. Reports and Student Progress Documentation
Complete Mid- Year Report narratives covering class and individual student progress in developing specific skills, effort level and behavior.
Complete End of Year Report narratives covering class and individual student progress in developing specific skills, effort level and behavior. Reports are to be submitted by the assigned deadline date to be reviewed for suggested edits by an assigned peer.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintaining and striving for an openness to understand and work with the Anthroposophical underpinnings of Waldorf Education and child development.
Attendance and participation in monthly faculty meetings, as well as certain work days throughout the academic year as scheduled.
Make themselves available, as appropriate and applicable to their schedule, to offer extra help to students and their parents. This availability will be communicated to the families in the class.


Attendance/assistance at major all-school activities and open houses whenever possible.


Attendance at the All School Meetings called by the Board of Directors.
Maintain and make readily available a lesson plan that can be given to a substitute teacher in the event of an absence.


Participate in a professional development and accountability plan.
In the event of a planned absence, make arrangements for a substitute and ensure that they receive any lesson plans and materials needed to cover the missed class(es).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree (preferred in Math or Education)

Demonstrated mastery in middle school math, with commitment toward carrying out the approved Waldorf curriculum that is indicated for their subject
Demonstrated classroom management skills for a variety of ages and skill-levels
1-2 years previous classroom experience

Preferred candidates will have Waldorf certification or a commitment to receive further training in teaching their subject from an AWSNA-approved Waldorf Teacher Training Program
